Denver RTD and MTM Transit Partner for ADA Mobility Assessment and Travel Training Services

To help it deliver safe, independent access to public transportation resources in Denver, MTM Transit is excited to announce that we have partnered with the Regional Transportation District (Denver RTD) to provide mobility assessment and travel training services. Through its Access-A-Ride program, RTD delivers complementary Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit service. This service helps people with disabilities who are unable to use RTD’s fixed route bus and train options maintain their freedom to travel around the Denver metro area.

To use Access-A-Ride, RTD customers must apply for the service, and then complete an in-person interview and ADA mobility assessment. Under a five-year contract with RTD that went live on September 1, MTM Transit will conduct approximately 2,000 of these mobility assessments annually. To support the program, our local team of six have established a fully ADA-accessible facility adjacent to RTD’s fixed route services; the facility includes a state-of-the-art indoor assessment course, as well as private interview rooms.

“ADA paratransit services should never be a one-size-fits-all solution for transportation needs,” said MTM Transit’s Senior Director of Mobility Management Mike Davis. “We’re excited to partner with RTD to impartially recommend Access-A-Ride for truly qualified applicants, working with the agency to evolve its eligibility process to meet the increasing demand for paratransit.”

As a supplement to the mobility assessment portion of the program, MTM Transit also offers travel training services to those applicants who may not quality for paratransit. If an applicant can use public transit, our travel trainers work with them to help them learn how to use main-line transit options like accessible fixed route bus and train routes to safely navigate the Denver community.

“MTM Transit and RTD have shared goals of improving independence and community access, while also appropriately leveraging transportation funds,” Davis continued. “Through our proven mobility management approach, we look forward to providing consistent, accurate eligibility determinations for RTD and its applicants, as well as expanding transportation access by helping customers confidently utilize fixed route options.”

“RTD welcomes MTM Transit as our new eligibility and travel training provider,” added RTD’s Senior Manager, Paratransit Services Paul Hamilton. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with their staff in other markets, and I have always been impressed with their professionalism and knowledge of the ADA and accessibility. Their go-live efforts have been equally impressive as they worked with our advocacy community to assist in training their staff, resulting in a transparent implementation that has allowed us to improve our functional assessment processes. We look forward to a long working relationship!”
